Floor Finishing: Sanding, Polishing
Q Can my floor be sanded and polished?
Most times, yes!  Basically any timber floor can be sanded and polished. There are a wide variety of timbers used as flooring in Australia. Some need to be worked differently than others so it is important to seek professional advice before proceeding.

Q How long will it take to do my floors?
A It depends on the size of the job. However, the average is 3 to 5 days. Once the final coat has been laid the floor should not be walked on for at least 8 hours.

Q Can I stay in the house while the work is in process?
A Yes! As long as you have access to living areas without using the sanded section of the house. If this is not possible we strongly recommend you seek alternative accommodation during the drying period.

Q Does the work create much dust?
A Modern sanding machinery is fitted with dust collecting equipment and sanders will endeavour to clean dust away by vacuuming and wiping down surfaces. It is virtually impossible however to totally eliminate dust from the job, which has a couple of consequences:
• There will always be some dust particles that settle on the newly finished surface.
• There will be an amount of dust through out the rest of the house.

Q Can the finish be bad for my health?
A No! The products we use are non-toxic and safe for even the most chemically sensitive person.

Q If I have carpet on my floors do I need to remove it?
A Unless specifically agreed to and quoted for, all floorcoverings should be removed, including underlays, staples, tacks, glue etc.

Q Will sanded floors make my house cold?
A No! This is a popular urban myth. Northern Europe and Scandinavia are the home of sanded floorboards. The usual temperatures in that part of the world is significantly lower, than in Australia. Tongue and groove flooring seals the floor from upward drafts, creating a touch warm environment.

Q Should I move my furniture prior to the work?
A We strongly recommend you move all your own furniture. If not, we can move it for you at an extra cost.

Q Should I have my floor done room by room, or, all at once?
A All at once is preferable, as you can keep costs down by us reducing our travelling expenses.

Q How much will it cost?
We start as low as $35.00 per square metre for a new floor and up to $45.00 for older floors. However it all depends on the condition of your floor prior to starting, and the type of coating you choose to have applied. As an example the average bedroom is 12–14 square metres.
